An Operating System is the low-level software which manages a computer. It controls the way the hardware functions, the communication with peripheral devices such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between the installed applications, as well as the prioritization of applications when several run at the same time. Every program that is installed on a notebook or a desktop functions by sending requests to the OS for various services by using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS can be done using a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting world, the Operating System is what controls a server and all the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. When there're virtual machines created, they use a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS

Our virtual private server plans feature three Linux distributions that you could select from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are really stable and protected and the main reason to offer you all three of them is to make sure that you can run any kind of app that you would like, as different pieces of software may have different requirements regarding the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a vast community of developers who have generated thousands of software packages which you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you select, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to take care of your hosting content. Of course, if you decide that you need some other OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the Operating System for max stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server plans - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're absolutely free and they won't increase the low price of your new web hosting server, but also because they are extremely stable and secure. Each of them is backed up by a big community of developers, so you will be able to choose from countless software packages that you could install on your server in case the application that you want to employ has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use since the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and because we would like to provide you with as much versatility as possible, we offer multiple OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you get a server with a certain OS, we could change it upon request if it turns out that you'll need alternative one. We could also keep the OS updated weekly as part of the additional Managed Services upgrade.
